Association Internationale Bible et Informatique AIBI-7 CALL For PAPERS 2004, 23-24 juillet 2004, K.u.Leuven (Belgique) Dear Colleague, On behalf of the Board of the AIBI we would like to give you some details of the next AIBI VIIth Conference. As agreed last year, the meeting will take place in Leuven on 23-24 July 2004. The format of this conference consists of “expert seminars”. The overall theme of this meeting is “E-gesis in Biblical Studies: What does it do?“. The venue of the conference will be at the mediaeval Residential Area “Groot Begijnhof” of the University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven). The UNESCO has acknowledged this historical site as world heritage. Participants who desire so will be lodged in comfortable student rooms in 17th century houses. The meeting will be held in the conference room at “De Engelbewaarder” (“The Guardian Angel”). The price for lodging for three nights (22-23-24 July) and registration is 150 EUR, payable upon arrival. Those participants wanting to attend the Colloquium Biblicum Lovaniense LIII on “The Septuagint and Messianism” (27-29 July 2004) at Leuven may reserve additional nights at 35 EUR per night). Meals are to be taken on individual basis in any of the many nearby restaurants, bars or coffee shops that make Leuven such an attractive city. The Groot Begijnhof (Grand Béguinage) is a five minutes walk from the city centre. The details of the programme and all practical information will be sent to the participants in due time. The general lines are yet clear. The Meeting will start on 23 July at 9.00. Réginald Ferdinand Poswick, Director of the Centre Informatique et Bible (Abbey of Maredsous, Belgium) and founding father of the AIBI Conferences, will read the opening paper. The Meeting will be closed with the General Assembly of the members of the AIBI on 24 July, at 18:00. On 23 and 24 July, four “expert seminars” will be held: one in the morning (from 9:00 to 12:30) and another in the afternoon (from 15:00 to 18:30) each day. The topics of three of the four seminars have been determined: Seminar conducted by Francis I. Andersen - A.Dean Forbes¤ Topic: “Hebrew Grammar Visualised: Syntax and Discourse”. Seminar conducted by Luis Vegas Montaner¤ Topic: “Prefix Conjugation and Discourse”, with contributions by Guadalupe Seijas (on Isaiah), F.J. del Barco (on Minor Prophets), and L. Vegas (on Psalms). Seminar conducted by Marc Vervenne¤ Topic: “The Effect of Computer Directed Analysis on the Methodology of Biblical Studies”, with contributions by E. Bladh (on “Transfer of Form and Aspect in Bible Translation), J. Dijk (on “Syntactic Analysis in the Study of Syriac Kings”), D. Noel (on “Literary Approach with Statistical methods”), and W.Th. van Peursen (on “Linguistic Philology and Exegesis”). Proposal for the fourth seminar are welcome, be it in terms of a general topic approached from different angles by several scholars, in terms of papers by individual scholars which could be loosely grouped in a single slot, or in the form of free workshops focusing on new ICT developments in the field of Biblical Studies.
